AUVERGNE | DOMAINE L'ARBRE BLANC | NEW KIDS ON THE BLOCK

Datum: 24-09-2018

Jacob & JUlie new kids on the block

stay tuned

I've been around the world and every step of the way I'm learning something.

Today I'm not going to see the Featured Domains. I tend to look for vineyards that nobody knows about. More and more I dedicate my life to wine that follows nature. I'm not a fan of wine pushed for more alcohol, and more tannin, which loses its fruit and elegance. On the other hand, I love smart wines.

so much quality

What is good is to showcase the winegrowers who have made great efforts in natural and biodynamic wine. In Auvergne, for example, at Domaine de l'Arbre Blanc, I recently had a great time. Meeting at the turn of a tasting at this estate for an uncompromising point of view I have never tasted so much quality for its range of Les Petites Orgues, Les Grandes Orgues, Les Fesses macération and Les Orgues ni petites ni grandes. No inputs or sulfite. I don't want to create illusions, but Frédéric and Caroline Gounan's wine tells its story. All the secrets of the vine were revealed to us during a little digestive walk with, finally, the car full of beautiful things.

BALANCED FIRE

And what is the key to the success of a veritable natural wine at a time when many wines are made industrially? At Fred and Caroline, everything is handmade with the best grapes and know-how to never forget. You have to remember a few bottles for memory, but while they are good to drink from the moment you buy the Arbre Blanc wines, they catch fire very quickly. They are a maximum of taste pleasure if you don't want to hurt your head. Delicate, fresh with a salty and greedy sensation and very balanced.

Fred has recently (2019) decided to raise all his wines on amphorae. We tasted all the new vintages and were deeply impressed. Let's hope our allocation increases a bit.
